VERACRUZ, Mexico, Sept. 13 (UPI) -- Tropical storm warnings were in effect for parts of Mexico's east and west coasts as Pacific and Atlantic storms dumped heavy rains Friday, forecasters said.
In the Gulf of Mexico, Ingrid, the ninth named storm of the Atlantic hurricane season, was drenching portions of eastern Mexico, the National Hurricane Center said Friday in its 4 p.m. CDT advisory.
Ingrid was about 50 miles east of Veracruz with maximum sustained winds of 45 mph.
Ingrid was stationary but was expected to develop a northward drift Saturday and remain very close to the coast during the next 48 hours.
A tropical storm warning was in effect for Coatzacoalcos to Cabo Rojo and a tropical storm watch was in effect for north of Cabo Rojo to La Pesca.
Ingrid was expected to produce 10 to 15 inches of rain across a large section of eastern Mexico, which could result in life-threatening flash floods and mudslides.
In the Pacific Ocean, Tropical Storm Manuel prompted storm warnings from Acapulco to Punta San Telmo.
Manuel was about 150 miles south-southwest of Zihuatanejo and 165 miles south of Lazaro Cardenas and moving west-northwest at 6 mph.
Maximum sustained winds were 40 mph, with higher gusts. The storm was expected to strengthen during the next 48 hours and gradually turn north-northwest, staying very near to the coast of southwestern Mexico.
Manuel was expected to produce 10-15 inches of rain that could cause life-threatening flash floods and mudslides.
