Bear kills two people in Russia; police shoot it to death

LADANOVKA, Russia, Sept. 8 (UPI) -- Police in Russia's East Siberia said they killed a bear that was responsible for the deaths of two villagers.

A woman called police late Saturday to report she had found the body of a man in the village of Ladanovka, RIA Novosti reported Sunday.

"Two police officers arrived at the scene. They found a bear that was burying a man. The animal was shot to death," an unnamed police spokesman said.

The spokesman said police found the body of a second villager about 328 feet away from where the bear was burying the first man.

Meanwhile, an elderly woman was killed by a bear Saturday in the village of Chuguyevka in the Primorye Territory, RIA Novosti reported.

Police were searching for the bear that attacked the woman.

None of the identities of the victims was reported.
