SINAI, Egypt, Sept. 3 (UPI) -- Egyptian army helicopters launched missile attacks at suspected militant Sinai strongholds Tuesday, killing at least eight people, officials said.
Ahram Online reported 15 people were injured in the attacks.
The Palestianian Ma'an news agency put the death toll at closer to 15 suspected militants.
The helicopters fired 13 missiles at positions in the city of Sheik Zuweid, targeting weapons caches and houses where militants were suspected to be hiding, Ma'an said.
Officials told Ma'an they arrested two people after the initial airstrike.
Since the ouster of Mohamed Morsi as president, militants have allegedly been staging repeated attacks against Sinai military and police forces, killing dozens of people, Ahram Online said.
Egyptian security forces said Saturday they arrested a wanted militant accused of killing 25 off-duty police officers in the area.
