Camper survives after falling 40 feet trying to find toilet in dark

RHOSLEFAIN, Wales, Sept. 1 (UPI) -- A camper was recovering from injuries suffered when she fell 40 feet off a cliff in Wales while looking for a toilet in the dark, authorities said.

The woman didn't have a flashlight with her and was believed to have become disoriented in the dark at the campground on a remote beach cliff in western Wales, The Daily Telegraph reported Sunday. She was found at the base of the cliff after being reported missing by her companions when she failed to return to the campsite.

"She went to the toilet in the early hours of Friday morning," a spokeswoman for the Cae Du campsite in Rhoslefain said. "A friend was supposed to go with her with a light but she went on her own. She fell right off the campsite, it is a long way down.

"The lights from the toilet block were shining all the way on the path to their tent. Their tent was near the toilet, we can't understand it.

"We are just glad she is alive and that's the most important thing."

The woman was flown to Ysbyty Gwynedd Hospital in Bangor and then transferred to University Hospital North Staffordshire Saturday.
