Palestinians threaten to sue to stop Israel's expansion of settlements

JERUSALEM, Aug. 22 (UPI) -- Palestinian leaders said Wednesday they may go to international court in attempt to stop Israel from expanding settlements in contested territories.

Hanan Ashrawi, a member of the Palestinian Liberation Organization's Palestinian Authority who raised the possibility of a lawsuit against Israel, pointed to the more than 2,000 new Jewish homes approved for construction last month in Judea, Samaria and Jerusalem, Arutz Sheva reported.

"These are not just dots on a map," Ashrawi said. "These are willful and destructive measures to prevent the creation of a Palestinian state.

"If Israel carries out these plans ... we will be forced to [have] recourse to international judicial processes through international institutions."
