Toronto OB-GYN prohibited from delivering babies after two mishaps

TORONTO, Aug. 20 (UPI) -- A Toronto obstetrician who botched the birth of two infants will no longer be allowed to deliver babies, a disciplinary committee has ruled.

The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario said Dr. Padamjit Singh may perform other medical procedures under a restricted license but cannot preside over the birth of infants, the Toronto Star reported Tuesday.

The decision came after one infant delivered by Singh sustained multiple skull fractures and another suffered asphyxiation.

The disciplinary committee said along with the two births, Singh ran into trouble while removing an ovarian cyst and the patient suffered major blood loss.

Reports obtained by the Star indicated medical staff at the hospital where Singh worked reported she seized up during emergency deliveries and didn't appear to know what she was doing.

Singh received her medical training in India.
