The three, and an unidentified underage suspect who will be tried separately, assaulted and robbed eight passengers on a tour bus, then forced six to disembark. One of the two tourists remaining on the bus, an American woman, was raped, and her French boyfriend was handcuffed and beaten with a tire iron, the ruling stated.

De Souza and de Souza Silver each received 49-year prison terms for rape, robbery, extortion and corruption of a minor. Costa dos Santos, who was not involved in the robberies, received a 21-year prison term for rape and extortion, the Brazilian newspaper O Globo reported.
