21 dead, 66 injured in five car bombs in Baghdad

BAGHDAD, Aug. 15 (UPI) -- At least 21 people died and 66 were injured Thursday in a series of five car bomb attacks in Baghdad, police said.

The attacks took place nearly simultaneously during rush hour throughout the capital, Chinese news agency Xinhua reported.

Of the five attacks a source, speaking on condition of anonymity, said:

-- Four people died and 12 were injured in the Alawi district near the Green Zone, which houses Iraqi government offices and some foreign embassies.

-- Seven people died and 20 were injured in the northern district of Kadhmiyah.

-- Five people died and 13 were injured in Bab al-Mu'dham area of downtown Baghdad.

-- Two people died and 10 were injured in al-Qanat Street in the eastern part of the capital.

-- Three people died and 11 were injured in the district of Shurta al-Khamsa in southwestern Baghdad.
