Second day of Jamaat strike leads to clashes, injuring at least 15

COMILLA, Bangladesh, Aug. 14 (UPI) -- At least 15 people were injured Wednesday morning when Jamaat-e-Islami activists clashed with police in Comilla, Bangladesh.

The injuries came on the second day of Jamaat's strike, reported.


The protesters clashed with local Awami League activists, and police intervened, firing several rounds of rubber bullets. said Jamaat activists slashed at least three Awami League supporters and threw stones at police, injuring two officers.

Ten Jamaat activists also were injured.

The Jamaat party called for a strike Aug. 1 after a High Court declared its registration with the Election Commission illegal and void.
