British cameraman killed covering Egyptian violence

LONDON, Aug. 14 (UPI) -- A cameraman for Britain's Sky News was shot and killed in Egypt Wednesday covering the violence in Cairo, the news organization said.

Mick Deane was part of the Sky News team working in Egypt, where scores died as soldiers attempted to clear protests by supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood calling for the reinstatement of Mohamed Morsi as president.

The head of Sky News John Ryley described Deane as the very best of cameramen, a brilliant journalist and an inspiring mentor at Sky.

Foreign editor Tim Marshall called Mick "a friend, brave as a lion but what a heart ... what a human being," adding he was humorous and wise.

British Prime Minister David Cameron tweeted he was "saddened to hear of the death of cameraman Mick Deane, covering Egyptian violence."
