More Poles opposed to abortion in any context

WARSAW, Poland, Aug. 13 (UPI) -- Three-in-four Poles think abortion is "wrong" and "not justifiable under any circumstances," an opinion survey indicates.

A full 75 percent of Polish citizens said they're opposed to the procedure in all instances, up 6 percent from a similar poll two years ago when 69 percent of respondents held that view. The survey was conducted by Poland's Public Opinion Research Center.

Poland and Ireland are the two most staunchly Roman Catholic countries in the European Union and Poland has the strictest abortion regulations on the continent, Polskie Radio said. Currently, an abortion is granted only when the woman's life is in danger by virtue of continuing the pregnancy, if a woman is impregnated because she was raped or if the fetus is badly malformed.

Information on the poll's margin of error, number of those queried and when was not available.
