Five dead in separate shooting incidents in Pakistan

KARACHI, Pakistan, Aug. 11 (UPI) -- At least five people, including one police officer, died Sunday in separate attacks in Karachi, Pakistan, officials said.

Police officer Nazim Abbas died after gunmen opened fire near Chawla Market in Nazimabad, Dawn News reported.

A woman died after being attacked at a traffic signal in Garden Town while walking on her way home, the newspaper said.

Three other people died in separate shooting incidents in Baldia, Garden and Orangi towns, Dawn said.

Meanwhile, police in Musharraf Colony arrested five people for alleged extortion, authorities said.

Those arrested were identified only as Wasif, Nazeer, Waqas, Wasim and Riaz. Police recovered four TT (Russian made) pistols and other weapons during the raid.
