$6,170 reward offered for information on Tanzania acid attack

ZANZIBAR, Tanzania, Aug. 9 (UPI) -- Zanzibar police said there is a $6,170 reward for information leading to the capture of attackers who threw acid at two teenage girls.

The suspects threw the acid on two teenagers' faces, chests and hands Wednesday as the young women walked in the city, the BBC said.

The teenagers, Kirstie Trup and Katie Gee, are from London, and were taken to a hospital after the attack, police said.

The attackers sped away and police said they do not know what prompted the attack, the BBC reported.

The victims were on a volunteer trip with a charity group in Tanzania.

President Jakaya Kikwete visited the teens late Thursday and promised those responsible would be found.
