NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug. 7 (UPI) -- A cargo terminal shut down by fire was reopened Wednesday at the airport in Nairobi, Kenya, a government spokesman said.
Security agents reopened the terminal at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport after an inspection by the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority, Statehouse Communications Secretary Manoah Esipisu said.
Transportation Secretary Michael Kamau said the fire was "very severe," the BBC reported. Ambulances and fire trucks were at the scene although there were no reports of injuries.
Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta urged citizens not to speculate on the cause of the fire, and the government rejected rumors it was connected to the seizure last week of the airport's duty-free shops by the Kenyan Civil Aviation Authority.
Two days earlier, a pipeline supplying fuel to the airport malfunctioned, and Wednesday marked the 15th anniversary of a terrorist bombing at Kenya's U.S. Embassy, the radio station Capital FM Kenya noted.
