LONDON, Aug. 4 (UPI) -- The mystery insider who made Britain's 1963 Great Train Robbery possible will be revealed in a documentary to be aired this year.
South West Gang member Douglas Gordon Goody, 84, will name the so-called Ulsterman, the informant who shared inside information about when and where Royal Mail trains carried large sums of money between Glasgow, Scotland, and London each night, Britain's The Observer reported Saturday.
The Ulsterman gave that information to the South West Gang, which was comprised of Goody, Bruce Reynolds, Charlie Wilson and Ronald "Buster" Edwards.
Goody met the Ulsterman through solicitors' clerk Brian Field. Goody, Field and Edwards were the only three who knew the identity of the man.
Now that Field and Edwards are dead, Goody, who now lives in Spain, said he'd reveal the identity of the Ulsterman in a documentary set to air this year, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the caper, The Observer said. Goody said at this point there's nothing to lose by sharing the information because the Ulsterman is likely dead.
The South West Gang stole $7.3 million in the robbery, worth $55.7 million today. The Ulsterman was the only person connected with the robbery who got away clean with his share of the money, $420,000.
