UST-KAMCHATSKY, Russia, July 26 (UPI) -- Police in Russia said they are investigating the death of a newborn baby the 30-year-old mother allegedly burned in a stove.
The woman delivered the baby July 12 while alone in a house and she told police the newborn had shown no signs of life, RIA Novosti reported.
The mother, from the town of Ust-Kamchatsky in far eastern Russia, allegedly told police that she had concealed her pregnancy from her family and tried to abort the baby on her own.
"For several months she was trying to terminate her unwanted pregnancy; she took pills and made injections," police said in a statement.
Police said the mother wrapped the newborn in a plastic bag.
"She headed to an abandoned country house on the outskirts of the town. She threw the body of the baby into a stove where she had lit a fire," the statement said.
