Turkey warns Armenia over claims for long-lost land

BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 18 (UPI) -- Turkey's foreign minister has warned Armenian officials to "know the limits" of their attempts to regain land lost 100 years ago to Ottoman forces.

During a one-visit to Armenia's neighboring Azerbaijan, Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu cautioned that Armenia "should know the limits of its capacity," Hurriyet Daily News reported Thursday.

Armenia's prosecutor general, Aghvan Hovsepyan, recently called for his country to reacquire the Nagorno-Karabakh region of Azerbaijan.

Hovsepyan has claimed the borders between Turkey and Armenia were never legally established.

Davutoglu termed as "delirium" statements by Armenian officials about the territory.

"The territorial integrity of Turkey and Azerbaijan is pivotal for us," he said, and called on "those who dare take a pebble from Turkey" to know their limits.

Elmar Mammadyarov, Armenia's foreign minister, met Friday in Vienna with co-chairs of a group with the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) that is working to resolve conflict over the region.
