ANKARA, Turkey, July 8 (UPI) -- Four people could face up to 20 years in prison if convicted of selling confidential documents to Iran, a Turkish prosecutor said Monday.
In a 115-page indictment, the prosecutor said the documents revealed secrets of the Turkish Armed Forces, National Intelligence Organization and other public agencies, Today's Zaman reported.
The indictment charges Iran created obstacles at border checkpoints for Turkish businessmen who wanted to cross into Iran. Iranian agents allegedly approached the businessmen with the declared intention of helping them, but later asked them to gather information about executive members of the pro-Kurdish Peace and Democracy Party (BDP). Some of the informants were allegedly paid for their information.
One suspect said he was asked to take pictures of BDP and government buildings.
Two of those charged are Iranians.
