Cherdchai allegedly told police he drove Pilkington to his residence where Pilkington claimed he was cheated on the fare and left the taxi cab without paying. Cherdchai said he grabbed the knife from the car's trunk only to threaten Pilkington, but Pilkington ran toward him in an effort to hurt him.

Cherdchai said he then panicked, and slashed Pilkington several times before fleeing in his taxi.

Cherdchai was charged with murder, police said.
