BANGKOK, July 8 (UPI) -- Police in Thailand said two large 200-year-old golden Buddha statues along with other religious artifacts were stolen from a temple and monastery.
Limsin Sridonchan, 60, a monk's attendant, said he noticed the items were missing Monday morning from an old resting chamber for Phra Kru Monkol Navargarn, the 85-year-old abbot of the Sri Sakhon monastery in Sing Buri province.
Police said multiple thieves were likely to blame because the statues were too heavy for a single person to carry. Several smaller items were also taken, the Bangkok Post reported.
The items were worth an estimated 10 million baht ($318,250). Police said the suspects had probably visited the temple before and targeted the gold statues specifically.
