Bus crash in Spain kills 9, injures 20

AVILA, Spain, July 8 (UPI) -- A bus rounded a curve, slammed into a guardrail and overturned near Avila, Spain, Monday, killing at least nine people and injuring 20 others, officials said.

Health services officials said several passengers were trapped inside the vehicle and their conditions were unknown, El Pais reported.

Officials said emergency personnel were searching the area surrounding the crash in case anyone was thrown from the bus.

Firefighters used a crane to remove the bus that was partially blocking the road so traffic could resume, El Pais said.

The bus was traveling to Valladolid with 32 passengers and the driver on board. The vehicle, owned by the Cevesa, seats 40 people.
