BAGHDAD, July 3 (UPI) -- Car bombs in Baghdad and elsewhere across Iraq killed more than 40 people and wounded about 200 others, government officials said.
Security officials said bombings in Baghdad Tuesday left at least 26 people dead and 102 others injured -- the deadliest in the Shuala area, where two car bombs in a market killed 11 and wounded 39, China's state-run news agency Xinhua reported Wednesday.
A car bomb exploded in the Kamalea area of the Iraq capital, killing three people and injuring 11 others, police said.
An explosives-laden car went off near a parking garage in the Dora district, killing two and wounding 10.
Three people died and 14 were injured when a car bomb exploded near a market in the Abu Ghraib area, police said.
In the Hurria neighborhood, a car bomb attack killed three people and injured 13 others.
Outside of Baghdad, car bombs in Samawah, Amara, Baquaba and Mosul killed nine people and wounded nearly 50 others, police said.
So far, no group has claimed responsibility for the attacks, Xinhua said.
Iraqi Parliament Speaker Osama al-Nijaifi denounced the violence, saying the bombings were meant to "create sedition" among Iraqis, IraqiNews.com reported.
"We strongly condemned the criminal bombings that targeted the citizens in Baghdad and some other provinces to create sedition among the united Iraqis," Nijaifi said in a statement.
He also called on security forces to reconsider their plans "that proved being ineffective in sustaining security and stopping the security breaches that made Iraq to lose a lot."
