5.2-magnitude earthquake shakes northern Italy

MILAN, Italy, June 21 (UPI) -- A 5.2-magnitude earthquake struck northern Italy Friday, causing damage to several buildings and injuring at least one person, officials said.

The quake was centered near the shared borders of Lucca and Massa and Carrara provinces in Tuscany, Italy's ANSA news agency reported.

Many people fled their homes and offices during the quake.

Buildings in the towns of Lungiana, Fivizzano and Casole were damaged, the Civil Protection Department in the Tuscan region of Massa and Carrara said. In some cases, roofs caved in.
