When announcing his intent to resign, Necas said Sunday he wanted the current coalition government to remain and be led by a new prime minister who is a member of his Civic Democratic Party.

The party leadership was expected to tap a candidate Monday and forward the name to Zeman Tuesday, the news agency said.

Necas chief of staff Jana Nagyova, three former party deputies, three people tied to military intelligence and one former deputy party minister were arrested on suspicion of various crimes last week.
