Former BBC host, 83, sentenced to indecent assault on girls

LONDON, June 17 (UPI) -- A London Court sentenced ex-BBC broadcaster Stuart Hall, 83, to 15 months in prison after he admitted to committing sexual offenses against young girls.

Before sentencing Hall on 14 charges of indecent assault, the Preston Crown Court heard how Hall molested three girls during "elocution lessons" and another girl after inviting her to sing at a BBC studio in Manchester, the London Evening Standard reported.

Hall is accused of assaulting the girls between 1967 and 1986.

Prosecutor Peter Wright said a "significant" number of complainants were in court for the sentencing of the former "It's A Knockout" host.

Prosecutors said Hall was an "opportunistic predator" who would "approach under friendly pretences and then bide his time until the victim was isolated."

Hall initially denied any sexual interest in children and described his sexuality as "just normal," but admitted his guilt in April.
