Russian model could face prison for posing nude at landmark

KAZAN, Russia, June 11 (UPI) -- A 19-year-old Russian woman may face up to six years in prison for posing naked in front of a downtown landmark in Kazan, prosecutors said Tuesday.

The model, identified only as Nastya K., posed in various stages of undress in front of the Farmer's Palace to get money for a trip, RIA Novosti reported.

Local prosecutors said they could file charges of "illegal production and distribution of pornography" against the woman by Friday for which she could be imprisoned for up to six years, if convicted.

In Russia, however, there is no legal definition of pornography.

The photos were posted last month on the softcore porn site Sexart.com

Tabloid ProKazan had filed the complaint, saying the women "demeaned" the city, which is hosting an international sporting event next month in which 13,000 college athletes from more than 170 countries will compete.

Nastya K. may have little cause for concern about being locked up.

"Frankly, the whole case is laughable and has no substance," said Irina Petrova, a spokeswoman for the prosecutor's office.
