Four dead, two missing due to downpour in south China

NANNING, China, June 10 (UPI) -- Heavy rain in southern China's Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region has killed four people and left two others missing, officials said Monday.

In Rongshui Miao autonomous county, a 65-year-old woman was killed when her home collapsed due to the rain that has been hitting the area since Sunday, China's Xinhua news agency reported.

Also in that county, one person was reported missing.

Economic losses in the area have been estimated at $9.25 million, as 341 houses have collapsed due to the rain, another 1,630 houses have been damaged, and more than 8,000 acres of farmland have been affected.

In the nearby Hunan province, three people have been killed and another person is missing due to the downpour.

About 7,390 people have been evacuated and 669,000 people in 168 towns have been affected by the rain in Hunan.
