Defendant admits supplying NSU gun

MUNICH, Germany, June 5 (UPI) -- A defendant in the trial of a neo-Nazi terror cell in Germany testified he supplied the group with a gun used in several homicides.

The defendant, identified only as Carsten S., testified Tuesday he procured a gun for two National Socialist Underground members, Uwe Mundlos and Uwe Bohnhardt, who are both dead, The Local.de reported.

The pair was accused of committing nine racially motivated killings in a decade and of killing a German policewoman. The weapon Carsten S. supplied was used in nine of the 10 slayings.

Carsten S., 33, denied knowledge about the pair's intentions and said he thought the gun would be used for self-defense, The Local.de said.

The prosecution has argued that the gun's silencer proves Carsten S. knew the weapon would be used aggressively, but the defendant said that the men had not requested a silencer and he only provided them with what was available, The Local.de said.

The pair's alleged accomplice, Beate Zschape, is standing trial as an accessory to murder.
