Convicted killer beheaded in Saudi Arabia

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia, June 4 (UPI) -- A Saudi Arabian man convicted of running a relative over with his car, killing him, was executed by beheading Tuesday, officials said.

The Interior Ministry announced the execution of Shuwail bin Mohamed Bin Ahmed al-Amri in a statement released to the official Saudi News Agency, the Bahraini News Agency reported. He was put to death with a sword in the southwest region of al-Baha.

The victim, Mohammed bin Ahmed al-Amri, was run down with a car during a dispute between the two men.

In its statement, the government said King Abdullah is committed to justice and security in the Saudi kingdom.

Saudi Arabia has the death penalty for a wide range of crimes including adultery, drug trafficking and some religious crimes. It is one of only five countries where public executions are held, usually by beheading although some convicts have been stoned to death.
