Four men convicted in kidnapping of Russian software tycoon's son

MOSCOW, June 3 (UPI) -- A Russian court Monday convicted four men of kidnapping the son of Russian software tycoon Yevgeny Kaspersky and holding him for nearly a week.

Nikolai Savelyev and his son, Nikolai, Semyon Gromov and Oleg Mayukov were found guilty of kidnapping and the Savelyevs and Gromov were also convicted of extortion, RIA Novosti reported.

The four, together with Special Service Capt. Alexei Ustimchuk -- who signed a plea bargain in August and was sentenced to 7 years in prison -- kidnapped 20-year-old Ivan Kaspersky on April 19 and held him for $4.3 million ransom until April 24.

The suspects were apprehended as part of a police operation in a Moscow suburb.

Ustimchuk, who was accused of organizing the kidnapping, was charged with kidnapping and extortion.

The prosecutor asked for 12-year sentences for the Samelyevs, 11 years for Gromov and 7 years for Mayukov, RIA Novosti reported. The sentencing date was not scheduled.
