MURCIA, Spain, May 29 (UPI) -- Police revealed that the international Dutch volleyball champion who was killed along with her boyfriend this month was three months pregnant.
Ingrid Visser, 36, retired from the sport in 2011, after playing for CAV Murcia, and moved to the Netherlands.
She underwent fertility treatments at a private clinic in Murcia, Spain, in hopes to have a child with her boyfriend, Lodewijk Severin, 57, ThinkSpain said.
The couple were in Murcia to visit the clinic when they disappeared.
Police said Severin was paying a former manager of CAV Murcia, Juan C. L., large sums of money, believing he was investing in a marble quarry. But Juan C. L. was allegedly pocketing the cash and Severin made several attempts to get it back from him, authorities said.
In May, during a visit to Murcia, the couple agreed to meet Juan C. L. at his flat, where they encountered two hit men, Constantin S., 47, and Valentin I., 59. The bodies of the victims were then found chopped up in plastic bags, police told ThinkSpain.
Juan C. L. has confessed to the crime and identified the killers, police said. He admitted he arranged the killings because he could not pay Severin back.
