Attack on anti-polio team kills one

PESHAWAR, Pakistan, May 28 (UPI) -- Assailants opened fire on a team of polio workers in Pakistan Tuesday, killing one woman and critically injuring another, officials said.

Security personnel were accompanying the team in Peshawar when the attack occurred, the Express Tribune said.

Several other anti-polio teams refused to work in areas of the city after the attack.

The World Health Organization then suspended the teams from working in the city.

Militants have previously attacked polio vaccination workers in Karachi, Mardan, Peshawar and other Pakistani cities.
