2 U.S. Embassy officials shot at Venezuela strip club

LIMA, May 28 (UPI) -- Two officials from the U.S. Embassy in Caracas, Venezuela, were shot and injured at the Antonella strip club Tuesday morning, officials said.

The two men were part of the support staff in the office of the defense attache, an unnamed U.S. State Department official told The New York Times.

The gunfire appeared to be the result of a fight and wasn't political in nature, the official said.

Both men were shot in the abdomen. One of the men also sustained a gunshot wound to a leg. The injuries were not life-threatening.

One of the men was identified by local authorities as Roberto Ezequiel Rosas.

State Department spokesman Will Ostick said the neighborhood where the strip club is located is not off-limits to embassy staff.

No arrests had been reported.
