Duchess Kate star of queen's annual garden party

LONDON, May 23 (UPI) -- A visibly pregnant duchess of Cambridge dressed in a canary yellow coat was the star of this year's royal garden party in London, guests said.

The former Kate Middleton is scheduled to give birth to her first child in July. But onlookers said she did not let that slow her down as she made the rounds at the party at Buckingham Palace, the Daily Mirror reported.

About 8,000 people were invited to the annual event, hosted by Queen Elizabeth II and her husband, Prince Philip. Prince Charles and his wife, Camilla, duchess of Cornwall, were also on hand.

"The duchess looked absolutely stunning, as she always does," one guest told the Mirror. "She brightened up the whole party with her smile and was happy to chat to everyone."

Susan Bradley, a nurse with Marie Curie Cancer Care, said she had a chat with the mom-to-be.

"She instantly recognized my uniform and the daffodil in my lapel and told me that she had great admiration for the work the charity does as our staff cared for her own grandfather in his home when he was terminally ill," Bradley said.
