Meanwhile, six people died and 70 others were injured Friday evening after twin explosions in southern Kandahar province, provincial governor spokesman Gen. Abdul Razaq said.

Razaq said one explosion was a suicide bomb and the other was a remotely detonated vehicle packed with explosives in Aino Meena.

Six people, including three Afghan security officers died in Friday's blasts, Razaq said, though provincial governor spokesman for Kandahar province Javid Faisal said those numbers were closer to nine dead with 50 injuries.

No group has claimed responsibility for Friday's attacks.
