Italian teacher, preschool head arrested for alleged student abuse

ROME, May 15 (UPI) -- Police in Rome said they arrested a teacher and the head of a preschool Wednesday, accusing them of allegedly verbally and physically abusing children.

Authorities said they have video of the two educators, whose names were not reported, allegedly mistreating the children and encouraging older students to be violent with the younger ones.

The educators allegedly called developmentally disabled children names like "stupid" and "bastard," Italy's ANSA news agency reported.

In one incident, the teacher allegedly forced a student to clean up his own urine with tissues after he had a bathroom accident. The teacher allegedly threatened to make the child clean up the mess with his face, ANSA said.

A mother of one student said she had no idea such abuse was taking place at the school.

Parents of students at San Romano preschool demanded to see the video, ANSA reported.
