JERUSALEM, May 13 (UPI) -- Israel opened a diplomatic mission in one of the Persian Gulf states a Finance Ministry report indicated.
Details of the report first published Sunday by Haaretz said a Finance Ministry document to be presented to the Cabinet, states Israel opened 11 diplomatic missions, including one in a Persian Gulf country, abroad over the 2010-12 period.
The location of the mission wasn't mentioned in the report. However the report noted during the period missions were opened in New Zealand, Ghana, Turkmenistan, Albania, a Caribbean nation, Russia, Germany and China, as well as a "mission in the Pacific."
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Prime Minister's office refused to comment.
In the past Israel maintained interest sections in a number of Arab states despite having no formal diplomatic ties with the countries, The Jerusalem Post said. Examples include Qatar, Morocco, Tunisia and Oman, the newspaper said, noting all the missions were closed shortly after the outbreak of the second intifada in September 2000.
