U.S. carrier in South Korea for war games

BUSAN, South Korea, May 11 (UPI) -- A U.S. aircraft carrier arrived in South Korea Saturday for military exercises that have neighboring North Korea hot under the collar, military officials said.

The USS Nimitz pulled into Busan for a three-day port call that will include participating in joint drills with the South Korean navy, Combined Forces Command said.

The Nimitz arrived a day after South Korea and the United States completed an anti-submarine exercise in the Yellow Sea, South Korea's Yonhap news agency said.

The United States conducts frequent training exercises with the South Koreans. This weekend's drills have been labeled by North Korea as a "hostile act" and provocation.
