Iran, Oman shaken by dual quakes

SHARJAH, United Arab Emirates, May 11 (UPI) -- Dual earthquakes shook Iran and Oman Saturday, but there were no immediate reports of casualties or damage, officials said.

The U.S. Geological Survey measured the quake in Iran at a magnitude of 6.2, while the one in Oman registered 6.3, the Khaleej Times reported.

The quakes, which occurred at 6:08 a.m. local time, were centered about 53 miles southeast of the Iranian city of Minab near the Omani city of Khasab. The Minab temblor was at a depth of 21 miles.

Shaking was also felt in the United Arab Emirates. Residents in Sharjah said they experienced a mild tremor.

USGS recorded several aftershocks measured at between 4.6 and 4.8.

A 7.8-magnitude earthquake hit Iran last month.
