Mob tries to lynch Egyptian rape suspect

ZAGAZIG, Egypt, May 9 (UPI) -- Dozens of people in Egypt attempted to capture and lynch a man who allegedly raped and killed a 7-year-old girl, officials said.

Mobs surrounded the police station in Zagazig Wednesday, hoping to take the suspect, who was inside the station, and kill him, al-Ahram reported.

The state of Sharqiya, where the protests took place, has seen more than a dozen street mob killings in the last 2 1/2 years, al-Ahram said.

The latest took place Friday, when hundreds of locals killed a 16-year-old accused of shooting a 28-year-old man who insulted his father, Muslim Brotherhood figure Rabie Lasheen said.
