Ronald Lauder re-elected president of World Jewish Congress

BUDAPEST, Hungary, May 7 (UPI) -- U.S. businessman and philanthropist Ronald Lauder has been elected to another term as president of the World Jewish Congress.

Lauder ran unopposed for a second full term, Israeli newspaper Arutz Sheva reported. He was elected Tuesday at the WJC's plenary assembly in Budapest, Hungary, the European Jewish Press said.

"I see this as the top assignment for the Jewish people and I am excited to serve as president of the World Jewish Congress for another four years," Lauder said.

Lauder became president in 2009 with the resignation of Edgar Bronfman Sr., serving in an acting capacity for two years. He is a son of Joseph and Estee Lauder, founders of the Estee Lauder cosmetics empire.
