MUNICH, Germany, May 6 (UPI) -- The trial of suspected neo-Nazi Beate Zschape, a woman accused of killing 10 people -- most of them Turkish -- began Monday in a Munich, Germany, court.
Zschape, 38, is charged with involvement in the killings of eight men of Turkish descent, a Greek man and a policewoman -- between 2000 and 2007 -- and two bombings in Cologne and 15 bank robberies. She is allegedly the last surviving member of the National Socialist Underground, a neo-Nazi cell uncovered in November 2011.
Presiding judge Manfred Gotzl called a recess moments after the opening formalities after Zschape's lawyers said the judge showed "open discrimination" by requiring the defendant's lawyers to go through security controls, The New York Times reported.
Four others being tried are charged with assisting Zschape and the National Socialist Underground group. The trial is expected to last a year, the newspaper said.
