Political party folds after failing bid in Italian election

ROME, May 2 (UPI) -- An Italian left-wing political party led by a former prosecutor will dissolve after a poor showing in the February elections, party founders said Thursday.

The Civic Revolution party formed in December and was led by Antonio Ingroia, a former anti-Mafia prosecutor, the Italian news agency ANSA reported.

In a statement, party founders said they had "unanimously decided to consider this experience over."

The party's failure to win a single seat in the election "induced members to a deep reflection on the political phase," the statement said.

It was signed by Ingroia and other leaders of the party.

Ingroia had served as an anti-Mafia prosecutor in Palermo before creating the party.

After the election, he was appointed deputy prosecutor in the northwestern city of Aosta.
