Chilean cult leader found dead in Peru

CUZCO, Peru, May 2 (UPI) -- Police in Peru said they have found the body of a Chilean cult leader who was wanted for throwing a newborn into a fire.

Gustavo Castillo Ramon Gaete was found hanging from a rope Wednesday near an abandoned house, La Republica.Pe reported. His body was identified through fingerprints and it was taken to a morgue for an autopsy.

Castillo had attempted to flee from Cuzco earlier in the week but officials stopped him.

He had been hiding from police since November when he allegedly threw a 3-day-old into the fire.

Castillo called himself God, Expreso.Pe reported, and he reportedly had sex with all of the sect's followers.

Castillo said that as God, if he procreated, the baby would be the antichrist and it must die, Expreso.Pe said.

One of the sect's followers gave birth to the boy in November, and Castillo, who claimed he was the father, threw the baby into the fire.

The mother, who allegedly approved the sacrifice, has been arrested.
