An investigation of the cause of the food poisoning was being conducted.

Cairo police said hundreds of students blocked Nasr Road late Monday to protest the poisoning incident.

Some of the students chanted against the university's Grand Imam Ahmed el-Tayeb.

Egyptian Student Union Leader Mohamed Badran said he planned to attend a meeting with the prime minister to discuss deteriorating conditions at the country's universities.
