Five rescued from ocean, two missing after Peru balloon crash

LIMA, April 29 (UPI) -- Peruvian navy sailors rescued five women and searched for two men after a hot-air balloon crashed into the Pacific Ocean south of Lima, officials said.

The rescuers transported the women to a naval hospital after the balloon plummeted into the ocean Sunday, El Comercio reported.The pilot and a male passenger were missing.

Peruvian Interior Minister Wilfredo Pedraza said there were seven people aboard the ballon, two men and five women. He said the women were transported by air to a naval hospital, but their condition was unknown.

Pedraza said the search for the two men the search would continue.

"Hopefully we can find them as soon as possible," he said. "All we know is that one of them tried to swim to the coast. The search will continue, even at night, until they are rescued."

Helicopters, fishing boats and personal watercraft were sent out to search the area, CNN reported Monday.
