Attacks in Iraq kill at least 21 people; dozens wounded

BAGHDAD, April 29 (UPI) -- Attacks across Iraq Monday killed at least 21 people and injured about 78 others, an Interior Ministry spokesman said.

The spokesman said a car-bomb explosion in Karbala killed two people and injured 12, China's state-run news agency Xinhua reported.

At least six people died and 14 others were injured in a car-bomb attack in the Shiite district of Mahmodiyah, the official said.

Two car-bombs exploded in a market in Amarah, killing nine people and wounding 30 others, the official said.

A car-bomb exploded in Diwaniyah, killing two people and wounding 20 others, Xinhua reported.

In Yathrib, two soldiers were killed and two others were wounded when gunmen opened fire on an Iraqi army checkpoint, officials said.
