South Sudan offers another amnesty to rebels

BOR, South Sudan, April 26 (UPI) -- South Sudan President Salva Kiir Friday offered a second amnesty to leaders of rebel militia groups operating in several of the country's states.

The decree by Kiir grants pardons to leaders of six militia groups and to those under their command.

Kiir previously issued an amnesty to South Sudanese rebels immediately prior to the country's 2011 independence from Sudan. Some rebel leaders, like David Yau Yau, accepted the initial pardon but later returned to the rebellion, the Sudan Tribune reported.
