BANGKOK, April 25 (UPI) -- Thailand on Thursday lifted a ban on a documentary film, marking the first time a ban on a film has been removed in the country, officials said.
The film, "Fah Tam Pan Din Soon," or "Boundary," directed by Nontawat Numbenchapol, was banned Tuesday by the subcommittee of the National Film and Video Board, the Bangkok Post reported.
The subcommittee said the film, which looks at the Thai-Cambodia border situation, was misleading and a threat to national security, citing several scenes that deal with international and domestic politics.
However, on Thursday, censor office director Pradit Posew said the subcommittee, didn't have the authority to ban the film, only the main committee can do so.
Pradit also said that Nontawat should have been given the opportunity on Tuesday to defend his work, but wasn't.
The main committee viewed the film on Thursday and decided to overturn the ban, Pradit said, adding that the main committee saw no problems with the film.
It was the first time a ban on a film has been lifted in Thailand, the Post said.
