CAIRO, April 21 (UPI) -- Egyptian Minister of Justice Ahmed Mekki submitted his resignation letter Sunday, officials said.
Mekki has disagreed publicly with President Mohamed Morsi's decisions regarding many judiciary matters, including the dismissal of former Prosecutor General Abdel-Meguid Mahmoud and his replacement by Talaat Abdullah, Ahram Online said.
In his resignation latter, Mekki complained about demonstrations that were organized by the Muslim Brotherhood Friday and called for the purging of the judiciary.
He also condemned attempts to amend the judicial authority law to decrease the retirement age of judges, Ahram Online reported.
The law, if amended, would force 3,000 judges to retire.
Mekki also filed a complaint with the prosecutor general Saturday against the Wasat Party and National Conscience Front member Essam Sultan for accusing members of the judiciary of corruption, Ahram Online said.
